Carbon Budgeting – a Natural Business Intelligence Solution from Barrachd

Sustainability is the buzzword of the moment. In simple terms, demand on the world’s resources is growing and the resources available are shrinking.
Carbon budgeting is here for some and coming for most of us. As legislation raises the risk of fines and opportunities of carbon trading , carbon savings will come to mean money savings above and beyond the savings to be made on energy bills and taxes.
Barrachd has redeployed the functionality of IBM Cognos Business Intelligence for Carbon Management.
    Features include:
    • Statutory returns can be sent out automatically.
    • Performance can be monitored and underlying factors can be understood using the IBM Cognos scorecarding functionality.
    • Performance can be tracked month by month
    • Data can be collected from hundreds of sources with automatic consolidation

IBM Predictive Analytics Solution for Social Services - Young Adults Not In Education, Employment or Training (NEET)

NEET is the term used to describe young adults, Not in Education, Employment or Training. Being NEET is associated with negative outcomes later in life including unemployment, reduced earnings and poor health. These outcomes have a cost for both the individual and the economy.
Barrachd, has partnered with IBM to deliver a solution to identify young people who are at greatest risk of falling into this category, allowing support strategies and resources to be deployed in the most effective way.
There are several challenges that prevent already limited resources being effectively distributed to the young people needing support.
    • The NEET group is not static, it is a rapidly changing group as most young people do not spend long periods being NEET.
    • The difficulty is differentiating between those who are actively seeking education, training and employment from those who are long term NEET.
    • A vast amount of data is held in different locations and by different agencies.
    • Disparate data sets contain important records in both text and structured data formats.
    • Analysing data with current manual processes leads to long assessment periods and errors.
Using analytics allows agencies to predict the young people most at risk of becoming long term NEET, allowing support and assistance to be given to the right people at the right time.
Medway Youth Trust was the first organisation to adopt the IBM NEET solution. The Trust achieved a ROI within 3 months, with the following results:
    • 250% improvement in identification of NEET over existing manual approach
    • Data modeling dramatically reduced assessment time from weeks to under one day
    • 25% increased classification accuracy, resulting in better resource allocation and more targeted, more effective services
The following 7 minute video shares their story.
